Your hosts, Parachute, the BC Injury Research and Prevention Unit (BCIRPU), and the BC Centre for Disease Control invite you to take part in the Canadian Injury Prevention Conference from November 2 to 4, 2022. This is the first national injury prevention conference held in Canada since 2013!

We are pleased to announce that André Picard, health reporter and columnist for The Globe and Mail, will be the opening keynote speaker at the 2022 Canadian Injury Prevention Conference!

André has been a staff writer at The Globe and Mail since 1987. He is also the author of six bestselling books. He is an eight-time nominee for the National Newspaper Awards, Canada’s top journalism prize, and past winner of a prestigious Michener Award for Meritorious Public Service Journalism.

André was named Canada’s first “Public Health Hero” by the Canadian Public Health Association, and a “Champion of Mental Health” by the Canadian Alliance on Mental Illness and Mental Health and received the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for his dedication to improving health care. André is a graduate of the University of Ottawa and Carleton University, and has received honorary doctorates from six universities, including UBC and the University of Toronto.

Where is the conference being held? This year’s conference will take place at the Coast Coal Harbour Hotel in Vancouver, BC. We intend to hold this conference in person, and we will be closely monitoring public health guidelines.

Who should attend? All who play a role in the injury prevention field including public health, researchers, policy makers, Indigenous peoples, front-line community and social workers, first responders, and those working with priority and under-served populations are welcome to attend.

What topics will the conference cover? Topics will include injuries across the unintentional and inflicted spectrums including traffic, drowning, falls, fire, violence, suicide, and more. In lieu of a full Canadian Fall Prevention Conference, this event will have a focused program stream on fall prevention.

Please check this page for updates on registration and program information. Abstracts are accepted in both official languages. If you would like to sign up for the BCIRPU newsletter to receive regular updates, please fill out our email subscription form.

Immediately prior to this conference, the UBC International Road Safety Symposium will be held from October 31 to November 1. Learn more about this event at bit.ly/ubcroadsafety2022.
