Canadian Anti Fraud Centre (CAFC)

As we continue to navigate through Fraud Prevention Month, we would like to highlight an important resource for all Canadians - the Canadian Anti-Fraud Center (CAFC). The CAFC is a national resource that provides valuable information and resources to help Canadians protect themselves against fraud and scams.

One of the many features available on the CAFC website is the "Tricks of the Trade" section, which provides insights into the various tactics used by scammers to deceive Canadians. This feature is especially important for seniors, who are often targeted by scammers due to their vulnerability and trusting nature.

Seniors are often targeted by scammers with the promise of a better financial future, such as through fake investments or lottery scams. Scammers also prey on seniors' willingness to help others by pretending to be a family member or friend in distress and in need of money.

By familiarizing themselves with the "Tricks of the Trade" on the CAFC website, seniors can better protect themselves against these types of scams. They can learn how to spot red flags and avoid falling victim to these types of schemes.

The CAFC also offers a toll-free phone number (1-888-495-8501) and an online reporting system for Canadians to report suspected fraud. Reporting fraud is critical in preventing scammers from continuing their activities and can help others avoid falling victim to the same scam.
