[News] FortisBC's Energy Conservation Assistance Program: Community Partners Offer
FortisBC's Energy Conservation Assistance Program: Community Partners Offer (ECAP CPO) works to reduce utility bills within income-qualified households while also providing an honoraria to social service organizations that help our program thrive. In this way households can achieve a higher-level of comfort and community partners can supplement the programs in their community that matter most.
Through the Energy Conservation Assistance Program (ECAP), eligible customers receive, at no cost, a home energy assessment and personalized energy-efficiency advice from an energy coach, plus the installation of simple energy-saving products like LED light bulbs, draftproofing measures and water-efficient showerheads and faucet aerators. We also help make the home safer by installing a carbon monoxide detector for eligible participants who have gas appliances and heating equipment. With space heating accounting for around 50 per cent of a home’s energy use and water heating accounting for about 25 per cent of use throughout the year, the program focuses on improvements in these areas and helps customers better understand their energy use. Participants will receive a visit from an energy coach who will review the unique characteristics of the home such as its insulation, airtightness, age, and efficiency of the fridge. This will help determine which free products to install during their initial visit as well as eligibility for insulation upgrades, draft proofing upgrades, an ENERGY STAR® refrigerator, or an electric heat pump.
The ECAP CPO was developed specifically for Community Social Service Organizations (CSSOs) and the clients they assist. This offer asks that the CSSO team discusses the benefits of the ECAP program on behalf of FortisBC with income-qualified applicants who are living in single-detached homes, townhomes, duplexes or manufactured homes, and further asks them to assist their clients in applying for and gaining access to the benefits of the Energy Conservation Assistance Program. In recognition of the support, effort, and resource provided by partner CSSOs to make this program successful FortisBC will pay an honoraria fee, up to $50 per approved application, to Community Partners that promote ECAP to their clients as well as help clients easily apply for the program.
