Electronic Recycling Association (ERA)

The Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) is a nonprofit organization committed to reducing electronic waste while supporting digital inclusion across Canada. Since 2004, ERA has worked to extend the life of technology through reuse, refurbishment, and safe recycling, offering individuals, businesses, and institutions a secure and environmentally responsible way to dispose of unwanted electronics.

Unlike traditional recyclers, ERA focuses on reuse first. Devices such as laptops, desktops, tablets, and phones are carefully refurbished and donated to schools, charities, and community organizations. These contributions make a tangible difference by empowering students, nonprofits, and vulnerable groups with the tools they need to learn, connect, and thrive. With more than 400 charities on its waitlist, ERA’s work directly bridges the digital divide while reducing the volume of e-waste entering landfills.

Security is central to ERA’s operations. The organization adheres to ISO-certified standards for data wiping and physical destruction, ensuring sensitive information is permanently removed before devices are repurposed or recycled. For equipment that cannot be refurbished, ERA partners with certified recyclers to guarantee materials are processed responsibly, minimizing environmental impact.

ERA’s nationwide presence, with depots and collection partners across major Canadian cities, makes electronic recycling convenient and accessible. Beyond recycling, ERA runs initiatives such as donation programs, scholarship competitions, and community partnerships, all designed to inspire Canadians to think differently about the life cycle of their technology.

If you are a charity in need of electronics or if you would like to donate your decommissioned devices, you can apply or learn more at www.era.ca.
