United Way BC Healthy Aging

At United Way BC, we believe that every older adult deserves to age with dignity, independence, and a strong sense of connection to their community.

As BC’s population grows older and more diverse, the need for accessible, community-based supports continues to grow. Through our Healthy Aging portfolio, we work alongside the Community-Based Seniors’ Services (CBSS) sector, with support from the Government of British Columbia, to deliver programs that help older adults stay active, socially connected, and engaged in their communities.

We work in partnership with a network of 169 community agencies to deliver 348 Healthy Aging programs. United Way BC Healthy Aging program streams include Better at Home, Social Prescribing, Therapeutic Activation Program for Seniors (TAPS), Family & Friend Caregiver Supports, Social Meals, Volunteer Coordination & Supports, and Aging in Motion (AIM): Transportation Supports & Innovation.

Community Engagement

United Way BC works in close partnership with leaders from the CBSS sector to ensure Healthy Aging programs reflect the real needs of older adults. Through the Provincial CBSS Leadership Council, working groups, and regional consultations, we engage seniors, caregivers, service providers, and sector experts to co-create strategies that foster innovation and strengthen systems that support aging well. By investing in leadership development, funding, and tools, we help communities identify gaps, spark collaboration, and drive meaningful change across the province.

United Way BC manages the Healthy Aging CORE BC platform as a part of our work to build the capacity of the CBSS sector. Healthy Aging CORE BC is a vital online hub that empowers the CBSS sector with access to trusted resources, training, webinars, peer learning, and a biweekly newsletter. It supports collaboration, promotes best practices, and helps turn research into action.
