[Program] Rise, Shine, Sing!
This program studies the benefits of singing and dancing for seniors and is led by two Queens University professors and a dance facilitator. Participation is free, and members meet to sing and dance for one hour on Zoom every Monday at 10 AM (EST), with weekly themes (e.g., Happiness, Changes) and a range of repertoire (e.g., folk, musical theatre, rock, pop, etc.).
The program has been running since 2020 and currently has around 200 subscribers. About 25 people turn up every week online, but we are always looking for more members. One of the main goals is to allow participants to enjoy singing and dancing without feeling judged. Another fun aspect is that participants’ mics are turned off but still get the feeling that they are singing. And they are writing research papers that demonstrate all this!
