The Outdoor Recreation Fund of BC is an initiative by the Outdoor Recreation Council of BC (ORCBC) to support community-driven projects in British Columbia that enhance outdoor recreation opportunities, promote environmental stewardship, and strengthen connections between communities and the outdoors. 


The overall goals of the Outdoor Recreation Fund of BC are to:

  • Promote the responsible use of BC’s outdoors and facilitate meaningful outdoor recreation experiences.
  • Support community-based volunteer organizations in ensuring a sustainable and viable outdoor recreation sector in BC.
  • Contribute to vibrant and healthy communities through outdoor recreation opportunities.
  • Support provincial and local nature-based tourism and economic development objectives.


Funding Details

Funding amount and disbursement: Grant sizes typically range from $2,000 to $10,000 per project. Successful applicants will receive 90% of the awarded amount at the start of the project, with the remaining 10% disbursed upon completion and submission of the final report.

Project timelines: Projects must be completed by March 31, 2026.

Matching contributions: Projects require a matching contribution of at least 50% of the total project budget. It can be fulfilled with:

  • Monetary (cash) contributions from other sources.
  • In-kind contributions which include:
  • Donated materials at fair market value.
  • Donated accredited professional services at verified fair market value.
  • Volunteer labour valued at $20/hour.

Example: if your organization is requesting a $5,000 grant, you are asked to provide $5,000 or more in matching contributions (in cash and/or in-kind support).
