The Indigenous Food Security & Sovereignty (IFS) Grant

This groundbreaking initiative, backed by a $30-million investment from the Ministry of Agriculture and Food, aims to empower Indigenous communities by strengthening their distinct local food systems. By revitalizing traditional production, harvest, and preservation practices and leveraging indigenous knowledge, the program seeks to enhance Indigenous farming practices in response to a changing climate. 


Eligible applicants based in B.C. include First Nation communities, Tribal Councils, Metis Nation Chartered Communities, Indigenous-led non-profit organizations, and Indigenous businesses and entrepreneurs engaged in food production or processing. 


The program offers two funding streams:

*Stream 1 provides up to $150,000 for planning and design activities

*Stream 2 offers up to $250,000 for project implementation. 


Applications will be accepted during specific intake periods listed below.


The New Relationship Trust will collaborate with Aboriginal Financial Institutions (AFI's) in B.C. to support the delivery of the FS grants. Applicants may be referred to an AFI for further screening and approval.
