[News] Men’s Shed Opens on Semiahmoo Peninsula
A group that formed to help men to get together and work on projects – while also socializing – is getting underway on the Semiahmoo Peninsula. Men’s Shed, a social group that has been established in many communities across B.C. and around the world, is starting in White Rock. “It’s more of a social group, a mental health group where men can get together and talk and help each other out,” explained member Rod Tondevold. When men reach retirement age, it can be difficult for them to remain social and involved in meaningful activities, he added. But the group is open to anyone who is interested in joining. At its inaugural meeting held Wednesday morning about 12 people turned out, however the long-term location for the meet-ups is still up in the air. Finding an actual workshop in White Rock or South Surrey is proving to be a challenge, but that is not stopping the men from getting together.
