Beyond the Conversation

Beyond The Conversation exists to engage, empower, and inspire seniors, new immigrants, refugees, and youth. We are a volunteer-led initiative who are driven to use the English language as a vehicle to foster a sense of belonging, self-confidence, and connection to the community.

Our goal is to offer all people a place where they can feel welcome, make friends, learn from each other, appreciate each other’s cultures, and foster support networks. We hope to build new bridges of integration throughout the communities of Greater Vancouver. Our objectives are:

  • To strengthen our existing small groups in the Greater Vancouver area where members create a connection to the community and practice their English skills if needed.
  • To open 100 new locations for small group meet-ups by 2020 through our partnerships with Business Improvement Associations (BIAs), the faith community, neighborhood houses, local libraries, community agencies, community centres and building managers for high-rise apartments.
  • To end the stigma of social isolation and mental health issues.
  • To deliver 10 awareness presentations to high schools, colleges and universities in 2018.
