ClimateReadyBC
The challenges that B.C. faces are growing. Climate change is already affecting our communities, economy, infrastructure and ecosystems.
As a province, as communities and as individuals, B.C. must meet new challenges, including:
- Unprecedented forest fire seasons
- Heat domes
- Atmospheric river events that can overwhelm infrastructure
Disasters like these will continue and increase in complexity as climate change persists.
B.C. also faces greater seismic risk than other parts of Canada. A large earthquake could have devastating impacts if communities aren't prepared to withstand seismic activity.
ClimateReadyBC is a new approach from the B.C. government to:
- Learn lessons from past emergencies
- Address disaster and climate risk
- Build capacity and resilience to face current challenges
- Prepare B.C. communities to mitigate risk from future disasters
