resource image

This course was developed by the Ontario Age-Friendly Communities Outreach Program with funding from the Ministry for Seniors and Accessibility. The content of this course is based on the provincial framework: Creating a More Inclusive Ontario: Age-Friendly Community Planning Guide for Municipalities and Community Organizations.

Age-friendly communities are those that enable older adults to live fulfilling lives, maintain their independence, and actively participate in society. Whether you are looking for information on how to start an Age-Friendly Community Initiative (AFCI) or are looking for strategies to sustain your existing AFCI, this course will provide information to support age-friendly communities at all stages of development.

This course consists of six modules that can be completed at your own pace. The modules do not need to be completed in order, for example, if your community is at the stage of developing an action plan, you can start at Module 4. After each module, you will receive a certificate of completion.

  • Module 1: Introduction to Age-Friendly Communities
  • Module 2: Define Local Principles
  • Module 3: Assess Needs
  • Module 4: Develop an Action Plan
  • Module 5: Implement and Evaluate
  • Module 6: Maintain Momentum and Sustain Success
