Emergency Preparedness Guide: What Seniors Need to Know
Prepare for the unexpected with our comprehensive Emergency Preparedness Guide: What Seniors Need to Know, a collaborative effort by United Way BC and community agencies, generously funded by BC’s Ministry of Health.
Emergencies can strike suddenly, leaving individuals and families, especially those with support needs, vulnerable for up to seven days post-disaster. For the millions of Canadians with physical and cognitive disabilities, these situations pose even greater challenges, potentially requiring swift evacuations from homes and neighborhoods.
This invaluable guide is designed to empower seniors and their support networks to prepare effectively. With customizable sections addressing individual circumstances, it ensures tailored readiness for diverse needs. Unlike many online resources, our guidebook is tangible, intended for printing and distribution among community-based seniors, providing a physical resource in times of crisis.
We encourage Community-Based Seniors’ Services (CBSS) agencies to download and distribute the guidebooks to the seniors they serve, ensuring widespread access to crucial emergency preparedness resources.
Thank you to our community partners – Maple Ridge, Pitt Meadows, Katzie Seniors Network, DIVERSEcity Community Resources Society, Golden Community Resources Society, and the City of Pitt Meadows – whose invaluable support has made this project possible. Access the guidebook now and empower your community to face emergencies with confidence. Emergency Response Resources - United Way British Columbia (uwbc.ca)
