Guidelines: Healthy Eating for First Nations Communities

resource image

These guidelines were developed to support First Nations community members in educating each other about better food and drink choices to offer in schools, meetings, homes, cultural and recreational events, and in restaurants. There is information presented for various types of community members, from general background information on the issues facing communities to specific handouts that can assist individuals in choosing better snacks for lunches.

The information provided is targeted to community members - checklists include how to prepare food for large gatherings, how to prepare school lunches, and tips for serving and storing traditional foods. Service providers could use these guidelines when preparing to serve food at community events for First Nations groups or share the guidelines with members in their community.
