IMPACT OF HOUSING FIRST AND SUPPORTIVE HOUSING ON FRAIL SENIORS - SPOTLIGHT ON A LANGLEY SOCIAL HOUSING COMPLEX
The report, “Impact of Housing First and Supportive Housing on Frail Seniors: Spotlight on a Langley Social Housing Complex” was authored by the seniors-led volunteer community group, the Langley Seniors Community Action Table (LSCAT) to assess the impact of co-housing Housing First clients (who may require supportive housing for mental health and substance use issue) together with vulnerable, frail low-income seniors at the 600-unit, non-profit Langley Lions Senior Citizens Housing Society1 complex in the City of Langley, and to recommend steps that could be taken to avert a public health tragedy. We shine a spotlight on the “curious silence” whereby public policy research has not examined the impact on vulnerable seniors of co-housing those requiring supportive housing.
