[Recording] Arts and Technologies to Connect, Communicate, and Co-create Across Neurological Difference
This is a recording of a research seminar, entitled "Arts and Technologies to Connect, Communicate, and Co-create Across Neurological Difference", presented by Dr. Naila Kuhlmann on September 25, 2025. This seminar is a part of the Healthy Aging Research Seminar Series, hosted by the Edwin S.H. Leong Centre for Healthy Aging at the University of British Columbia.
Summary: How does the body shape our interpersonal relationships? How does sensory, bodily, neurological difference impede our ability to relate to one another? This presentation explores how the arts and technologies may serve to convey embodied experiences that are difficult to express verbally, particularly in the context of neurodegenerative conditions. Naila Kuhlmann will present Piece of Mind , an arts-based knowledge translation project uniting scientific and experiential knowledge of Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s dementia; and Living Rooms, a participatory research-creation project exploring how embodied experiences of Parkinson’s and circus arts may be conveyed and better understood in a multi-sensory format.
