Report: Out-of-Pocket Costs for Rural Residents When Traveling for Health Care
In collaboration with four rural community members ("patient partners") the authors designed and administered a survey for rural BC patients on their out-of-pocket costs when traveling outside of their home community for health care. They survey was completed by 381 rural patients from across BC between November 2019 and May 2020. According to the authors, "it is the first primary research study to systematically document the financial consequences of traveling for care for rural residents in BC and, as such, provides important information for health care planners."
This report gives an overview of the survey's findings.
