[Resource] Indigenous Cultural Safety, Cultural Humility and Anti-Racism: Practice Standard Companion Guide
The British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives and the College of Physicians and Surgeons of B.C. have collaborated on a new standard, Indigenous Cultural Safety, Cultural Humility and Anti-Racism. While this standard was developed for the health care system, the core concepts and educational resources are also very relevant for the CBSS sector.
The six core concepts of the Indigenous Cultural Safety, Cultural Humility, and Anti-racism practice standard are:
• Self-reflective practice (it starts with me)
• Building knowledge through education
• Anti-racist practice (taking action)
• Creating safe healthcare experiences
• Person-led care (relational care)
• Strengths-based and trauma-informed practice (looking below the surface)
