Volunteer Driver Programs Guide
Volunteer management for CBSS-supported transportation has uniquely challenging features that may require increased guidance for agencies. Although some agencies succeed in their transportation programs, others struggle with poor volunteer management and engagement, which reduces their capacity to meet community needs. This resource aims to support agencies by providing practical guidance on attracting and retaining volunteers.
The guide is organized by the themes of the volunteer management cycle. It offers a quick and easy-to-access checklist for each theme, along with more extensive resources in the appendix.
The volunteer management cycle is a robust, dependable framework for viewing and thinking about volunteer engagement. For our purpose, our framework includes the following elements:
- Planning and Designing
- Recruitment
- Screening and Placement
- Orientation, Training and Supervision
- Recognition
- Evaluation
By considering what is needed in each element of the cycle, volunteer-supported transportation programs have the best chance of meeting the needs of seniors in the community.
