Webinar: Motivational Interviewing
On June 11, 2020, Healthy Aging CORE hosted this recorded webinar on Motivational Interviewing with panelist Philipp Santiago, the Clinical Lead for Occupational Therapy and Mental Health & Substance Use for Rehabilitation & Recovery Services at Fraser Health.
Motivational interviewing is a counselling method that helps people resolve ambivalent feelings and insecurities to find the internal motivation they need to change their behavior. It is a practical, empathetic, and short-term process that takes into consideration how difficult it is to make life changes.
Learning Objectives of the webinar include:
- Understanding the basic principles of Motivational Interviewing (MI)
- Becoming familiar with core techniques and strategies used in MI
- Discussing ways to implement use of MI into dialogue with program participants
- Discussing ways to involve staff in a team approach to using MI in clinical practice
