What is a Resident and/or Family Council?

Resident and Family Councils give residents, families and representatives in long-term care a way to connect, support one another and bring forward their collective voice.

Councils can help strengthen communication with long-term care home leadership, identify opportunities for improvement, share information and education, and advocate for positive change that supports residents’ quality of care and quality of life.

ILTCCABC and its Regional Associations of Family Councils support residents, families and representatives across British Columbia to learn about, establish and maintain effective independent councils.
