Simon Fraser University’s Department of Gerontology invites you to the Gerontology Lecture Series featuring Viivi Korpela. This hybrid event will take place on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, from 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm (PT) at SFU’s Harbour Centre Campus in room HC 2270 (Sauder Industries Policy Room).

About the Lecture

In this lecture, we explore the forefront of inclusive digitalization efforts across Europe, focusing on aging populations. Drawing from a wealth of experience in digital inclusion and citizenship, we examine case studies from different European countries, showcasing successful strategies that can not only enhance digital literacy but also promote social inclusion and active citizenship among aging populations. These include tailored digital skills training programs and community-driven initiatives that foster digital engagement. In addition, we will delve into how the responsibility of acquiring and sustaining digital skills extends beyond the individual, emphasizing the need for society-wide support and user-friendly digital services that supports the dignity, independence, and connectivity of older adults. By sharing best practices and lessons learned, this lecture aims to inspire continued progress towards digital inclusion for all.
