[Webinar] Learning from Fort McMurray Emergency Evacuation

Fort McMurray evacuated in May of 2016 due to wildfire forcing the largest wildfire evacuation in Alberta's history, with upwards of 88,000 people forced from their homes


St. Aidan's Society staff worked very closely with the towns aging population during and after the evacuation. While it was a successful evacuation there were challenges such as lack of transportation, lack of efficient communication methods, and financial concerns.


Pam Burn's will be presenting from St. Aidan's Society in Fort McMurray, Alberta and talking about how they have supported the older adults in their community during wildfire season. She will also be discussing recovery and re-entry after disaster.


Cassia Thomas, ESS Advisor with RMWB Regional Emergency Services will also present information on the Vulnerable Persons Registry.
