Toolkit: Extreme Heat social media toolkit
Last year’s unprecedented heat dome highlighted the need to be better prepared for heat-related emergencies. To help citizens get ready, and prepare to cope, PreparedBC released an extreme heat preparedness guide.
The resource provides advice on heat planning, including how to prepare your home, the importance of checking in with vulnerable family members and neighbours, and how to stay cool and safe both inside and outdoors.
To support this work, the Ministry of Health developed an Extreme Heat social media toolkit. The kit includes provincial level messaging to support and encourage uptake of preventive and protective behaviours before, during heat season, and during a heat event.
These evidence-based and expert reviewed messages provide behavioural actions for specific audiences to help reduce preventable heat related illnesses and deaths. Messaging and graphics are available in English, French, Simplified Chinese, Punjabi and Farsi.
